For our first blog entry, we wanted to tell you a little more about the birth.
On the evening of Saturday, January 28, 2012, Marissa and I had gone out with her parents Bob and Josette to see if we could see the northern lights. We drove out of town to a dark spot but had no luck. On the way back at about 9:30 pm Marissa's water broke and we headed straight for the hospital. It was determined that our daughter was still in the frank breech position, so they scheduled a Cesarean section for Marissa right away.
Marissa was very brave and the surgeons did their job well. We welcomed Alexia Mary Lou Merkord into the world at 11:34 pm. She weighed a healthy 9 lbs 2 oz at birth and was 21.5 in long. It's no wonder she didn't want to turn in-utero!
Marissa and Alexia shared a few moments together before I was asked to take Alexia to the birthing suite to wait while Marissa's surgery was completed. Marissa soon joined Alexia and I and we were able to share our first moments as a new family.

Thanks for filling in the gaps. Hope everyone is recovered and doing great. Can't wait to meet Alexia and see you guys again soon. Lot's o' love from the Pruetts.
