We Return to Maplelag

We returned to stay at Maplelag again this winter. We skipped a few years after the lodge burned down, but it was great to be back. We made a late reservation so we ended up staying in the two cabooses. Alexia and Adaline stayed in one and Chris and I stayed in the other. They were very cozy and cute inside. Plus super easy access to the trails. A few weeks ago, all the snow had melted so we were very worried about whether we would have any snow to ski on. Fortunately, we got a good snowfall recently, and Maplelag is a magical winter bubble. We had to bring our own food, which required a little more planning, but I made chili ahead of time and packed lots of food. We did end up going to Detroit Lakes for dinner Saturday night, which was a poor choice. Lesson learned. We checked out their new sauna and even got brave enough to ski the loop they groomed out across the lake. It was my first time skiing across the lake. There were trucks and ice houses out there, but it still made me very nervous. Sunday was a glorious day of skiing. It was a bluebird day with great temps and sparkling snow. We did Roy's run, which is a 6 mile loop, and we were the only ones out there. We also finally saw a porcupine! It was a wonderful weekend, and pretty much the end of winter as all the snow disappeared the following week. We even stopped on the way home to celebrate March 1 and the opening of Dairy Queen. We skied out winter and ushered in spring in the same weekend.
