Addi started school this year. She is starting kindergarten in the Spanish immersion program just like Alexia, and she has the same kindergarten teacher, Maestra Gonzalez, which we were all excited about. Addi was very nervous because she has been at the same pre-school with the same friends and teachers for the last 4 years. Ellen Hopkins seemed enormous to her. However, the meet the teacher day calmed her nerves a little bit because she got to walk around and see where she was going. She was very worried about making new friends. Alexia has her first male teacher this year. He is from Ecuador. The first day went well. We couldn't go in the school with the girls to take Addi to her classroom, but Addi got to go with her big sister, which made them both happy. It was very bittersweet watching them walk off together that morning. They had to wait in a long line to get in the door as all the other kindergarten parents were one by one shoving their kids into the building. Some were running the other way. The both LOVE their teachers, and this is the only year they will get to be in the same building together. For the first two weeks, Addi said she didn't like school. Then she came home and told me she made a friend. She said a girl asked her on the playground to be her friend and she said "sure." Oh to make friends that easily as adults. She is getting more used to the Spanish and starting to really love school. Thank goodness masks are required again as COVID numbers are sky high in the community right now, but school feels more normal this year even with the masks. Crossing our fingers we avoid COVID
