Grasslands National Park is split between two separate blocks. We camped the first night in the east block. We drove the auto tour route that morning, and the girls picked up Parks Canada's Explorers books to complete. I have a former graduate student seasonal employee that is now a biologist for the park and lives on a ranch between the two blocks. So on our way over to the west block, we stopped by to visit Maggi, Bryn, and Bruce their two year old. On the way we realized we needed gas, but Saskatchewan is EXTREMELY rural and it was Sunday. We we ended up having to drive an hour out of the way to get some gas to we could make it to Maggi's, the west block, and the next gas station. Maggi and Bryn had three friendly puppies, but Addi was especially fond of their blind puppy that was born with no eyes or no tail. I don't remember her name. Addi had to take a picture of her, but we didn't get a group photo. I wish we would have had time to tour the ranch. We visited a little while and then headed to the west block. I was amazed at how FEW people we saw on the 2 hour drive. Almost no one on the high way, no one in the towns, and certainly no one on the drive into the park. It was absolutely BEAUTIFUL to see so much mixed grass prairie, essentially wilderness. We saw a lot of prairie dogs and burrowing owls along the way. The west block was our first night in our tent, and Parks Canada has very nice campgrounds and amenities.
