We got up early, packed up the camper, and headed over to the visitor's center to take our self-guided tour of Mammoth Cave. The girls got their first stamp in their National Parks passports and they were pretty excited about that. The cave was huge, and Alexia loved the tour. Addi got bored and tired of walking around, but she said she liked it. I will admit to be underwhelmed. Because of COVID, the areas with all the impressive formations are off limits due to low air flow and small spaces. We saw some of the really big rooms and some of the historical sites and uses of the cave, and it was probably a good amount of walking for the girls. It was nice to visit a National Park and not feel overwhelmed by crowds though. We felt safely socially distant from other visitors. After the tour we hit the road to make it to our campsite in Lawrence, Kansas.
One of the sad things about this trip is that we drove by so many friends along the route that we couldn't stop to say hello to. Driving across Missouri without stopping was a little painful. We tried to point out the bluff on the Missouri River where Chris and I got married to the girls, but it went by too quickly for them. I think this was one of the few days it didn't rain on us.
